The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will be hosting a national workshop to build entrepreneurship capacity in the tourism sector in St. Vincent and the Grenadines later this month.

Dubbed ‘Skill Wave: Workshop for Action, Vision and Entrepreneurship’, the workshop is set to take place 25-29 November at the conference room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Consumer Affairs. It will provide capacity-building to enhance business skills, with priority given to women. Topics covered will include business opportunity identification, business continuity management, financial management, supply chain management and exporting.

It is the third workshop to be held under a project launched by ECLAC Caribbean titled ‘Building Back Better in Tourism - Dependent Caribbean Economies post COVID-19’. This project aims to identify the major impacts of the pandemic on the tourism sector and support the development of practical strategies to help countries in post-pandemic rebuilding efforts.

The project will focus on helping Caribbean countries build resilience in the tourism sector. It will also help develop productive and export capacity for new sectors attempting to enter South-South business and cooperation. The Skill Wave program will focus on highly vulnerable groups and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives and livelihoods of women, children and young people, older people, those with disabilities, migrants and refugees.

Under the project there will be a dedicated focus on formulating policy measures regarding building the resilience of the subregional tourism sector as well as developing productive and export capacity of new or emerging sectors capitalizing on avenues for South-South cooperation where available. Particular attention is being paid to highly vulnerable groups regarding the economic impact of COVID-19, climate change and disasters and wherever feasible. There will also be a dedicated focus on the specific situations of women, children and young people, older persons, persons living with disabilities, persons living in depressed communities, migrants and refugees.

One of the two main intended outcomes of the project is to enhance the capacity of women, youth, rural dwellers and other target groups to capitalize on entrepreneurial opportunities in new capital sectors identified for economic transformation.

The workshop will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon daily. Interested persons can contact the Centre for Enterprise Development Inc (CED) at 451-2235 Ext 210 or register at https://bit.ly/3ANrvrX.
